Multiplayer Spades
Duel a friend head-to-head: you are both dealt the identical hands against the same AI table, on your own devices, with live score bars. First to the target score wins the duel - Won on bidding and card play, never on the luck of the shuffle.

Setting up a Spades duel in four steps
1. Open & share
Pick a variant, open a room, and send the link (or the 6-letter code) to your opponent. No account required.
2. Ready up
When you are both in the room, hit Ready. The server deals the identical shuffle to both of you at the same instant.
3. Race the score
Play your own table against AI while your rival's score bar climbs in real time. First to the target score wins; forfeit and your opponent takes it.
4. Rematch
One click deals a fresh set of identical hands to both players in the same room. Best of three is the house tradition.
Playing alone vs dueling live
Same cards, same rules - The only thing that changes is who you are trying to out-bid.
| Solo table | Live duel | |
|---|---|---|
| Opponents | Three (or fewer) AI seats | The same AI, plus a human rival racing you |
| The deal | Random each match | Identical hands for both players |
| How you win | Reach the target first | Reach the target before your rival does |
| Best for | Learning, unwinding | Bragging rights and a rematch |
Why duel a friend?
Spades is a social game at heart - The trash talk across the table is half the fun. Multiplayer Spades keeps that spirit online: you still bid your own hand, cover your own Nils and make your own decisions, but now there is a person on the other side facing the exact same cards. The result is all the strategy of Partnership Spades or Whiz, plus the pulse of a real race.
Same deal, decided by skill
Every duel is built on a single shared seed, so both players face the identical shuffles. No one is dealt an easier hand. That means a win is never luck - It is who bids more accurately, reads the trumps faster and wastes fewer points on sets and bags. It pairs naturally with the daily deal (one shared shuffle for the whole world each day) and the leaderboard, where your quickest solo wins are ranked.
Which variants can you duel in?
Live duels are available for four favourites: Partnership Spades, Solo, Whiz and Joker Joker Deuce Deuce. Pick one when you open your room; your opponent gets the matching deals automatically.
Multiplayer Spades FAQ
Can you play Spades with a friend online here?
Yes. Spades.now adds a real-time head-to-head duel: you and a friend are each dealt the identical seeded hands against the same AI table, and you race to reach the target score first. Create a room, share the link or 6-letter code, and play.
How does multiplayer Spades work?
When both players are in the room and ready, the server deals the exact same shuffle to each of you at the same moment. You each play your own table against AI opponents while a live bar shows how close your rival is to the target. The first to reach the target score wins the duel.
Is multiplayer Spades free?
Completely. There is no download, no signup and no payment - Just open the room link in any modern browser on desktop or mobile and play.
Which Spades variants can I duel in?
Head-to-head duels are available for Partnership, Solo, Whiz and Joker Joker Deuce Deuce. Because both players get the same seeded deals, every duel is fair - You win on bidding and card play, not the luck of the shuffle.
Do I need an account to duel?
No. Anyone with the room link can join as a guest and enter a display name. Signing in is optional and simply keeps your record and stats across devices.
What happens if my opponent disconnects?
If a player leaves or loses connection mid-duel, the remaining player wins. You can also start a rematch with one click, which deals a fresh set of identical shuffles to both players in the same room.
